ABCD Film Fest? Yes, ICD Film Fest

The first-ever Alphabet City Dolly (ABCD) Film Festival takes place August 11 - 13, 2011 at abcd-film-festival-logovenues from Avenue A to C and from 1st Street to 14th Street  in  Lower Manhattan, New York City.

This Pub-Crawl- Movie Marathon in the East Village is parenting more than 30 independent features, documentaries, and short films by independent directors, up-and-coming artists, and young production companies.

This festival is geared towards new and young production companies, as well as emerging directors looking for a new outlet to showcase their work to peers, potential employers, and a panel of guest celebrity judges alike.

"The dispersal of venues creates both a fun and unique structure that coincides with the artistic freedom associated with Alphabet City," explains Jean-Pierre Adechi, CFO of Authorized Dealer Films.

"This is the same neighborhood that Jimi Hendrix would just walk into a bar and plug in his guitar to rock out for local patrons. Where else could be a better canvas for emerging creativity?"

"Not only are we lucky to have such an awesome location and support from local venues, but the reception from the film community has been fantastic," Geoffrey Jean-Baptiste adds.

His statement is backed just by looking at the impressive panel, which includes directors Gary Winick and Steven Sebring. "Our responses have been incredible from everyone involved. Everyone’s excited and that’s what’s going to make all the difference in Alphabet City Dolly Film Festival’s execution."

Authorized Dealer Films is a young production company started in 2008. With over 12 years of film experience between the team their unique style is proclaimed "modern urban filmography". Their refreshing perspective has allowed the company to produce on an array of popular underground films, music videos, and commercials.

Some of the films are:

Anger
dir. Pierre Guillet
When television and mass media rule society, one old-timer has had enough. Soon media controls the world and humans have lost control of society.

Faceworld
dir. Gaby Ohayon
This quirky French film depicts a world where Facebook is reality and not simply a social network on our computer screens.

Behind Those Books
dir. Mills Mille, Karen Brown
The first and only comprehensive documentation on film of the controversial genre "Street Literature".

All I Can Say: A Musical
dir. John Mingione
This comedic musical tells the tale of John, a college undergrad whose life goes down the drain when his girlfriend dumps him, his father loses his job and he can no longer pay tuition.

Via Geanme
dir. Sebastian Guiterrez
This documentary tells the history of Geanme's immigration struggle from Colombia and how she ended up as a tenant in Alphabet City's famous Umbrella House -- once dilapidated ruins, now an iconic squatter place.

Walking Home
dir. Nuala Cabral
A short experimental piece about women routinely facing street harassment as they walk home. Shot in Brooklyn and Philadelphia, this film mixes 16mm film, video, poetry and music in an effort to reclaim a woman's humanity in the public sphere.

While this festival does not yet have the sexy dazzle of the uptown events, with its slate of curious, off-beat films it is off to a fine start of something big. This is definitely a festival to watch.
