For the uninitiated, Fashion Week seasonally inaugurates the current collection of a set of designers -- some veterans, other the hungry and trendy. Once a bastion of Paris or Milan, the internationalization of this community building experience really took off once the Fashion Week rooted in NYC went beyond the industry and became intergrated in the city's cultural life -- a celebration of special crowd of the cool and terminally "In."
The Mercedes Benz Fashion Week, held in Manhattan, September 5 – 13, 2012, brings previews of the latest fashions to locations all throughout the city and kicks off at the New York Public Library (476 5th Avenue) with an exhibition of clothes from Joseph Abboud on September 5th.
Primarily situated on the Lincoln Center campus, most of the designers show their latest wares -- whether formal or casual, cutting edge or classic -- and hope those in the first row pay attention whiel the wags in the back provide "oohs" and "ahhs."
Standing on the edge between tawdry and cerebral, mystery novels indulges our fascination with the macabre, and tests our observational knowledge about who would want to kill you and why. Now the writers of the sordid affairs will be converging upon Nashville Tennessee for the Killer Nashville Conference for Thriller, Suspense, Mystery Writers & Literature Lovers (August 24 -26, 2012) at the Hutton Hotel (1808 West End Avenue, Nashville, TN).

In an odd turn of events, one of the guest writers will also be a guest performer as Deaver’s band XO will be performing at Killer Nashvillle with folk-singer Treva Blomquist.
Other highlights at this year's Killer Nashville conference included manuscript critiques (fiction, nonfiction, short story, screenplay, marketing, query), a realistic crime scene from agents of the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI), prizes and author book signings.
So come on down, indulge in your homicidal Schadenfreude, espouse your love of Benedict Cumberbatch and discuss the finer points of alternative uses for candlesticks in the parlor.

Not so long ago, a gathering of curators meant tweedy, monacled art snobs holding forth in nasal tones. On September 5, 2012, the first annual Curators Conference will take a bow featuring fashionista and lifestyle royalty.
Even its time and the place scream chic: just prior to Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York (September 6-13) and that cathedral of cinema, Lincoln Center's Walter Reade Theater.
Presented by online channel Portable, the day-long gasconade will showcase the work and ideas of top curators and creators across fashion, film, design, music and technology. One such cultural light is fashion filmmaker and photographer Gia Coppola, whose clients include Diane Von Furstenberg, Rodarte, Zac Posen and such labels as Opening Ceremony and Wren. The 20-something grandaughter of Francis and Eleanor and niece of Sophia and Roman will discuss the fledgling art form of fashion videos.
If you’re like me, you appreciate something as simple as a cup of coffee. But when you take a step back, you begin to appreciate how that cup of coffee is made with something like a Chemex coffeemaker or a Mileeta Joe Cone.
Design, object fetishization and caffeine (or whatever your Pavlovian reward of choice is) goes a long way to make us admire the intricate and appealing design of everyday items and tchotchke.
