Games For Change: Growing Hearts & Mind With Play

The 15th Annual Games for Change festival held at the Parsons School of Design at the New School (63 5th Avenue, NY, NY) explores the cutting edge of game development and accessibility, and ingenuity on June 28 - 30. The festival includes panels from leading members of the tech and game dev world on subjects such as civics and social issues, games for learning, and neurogaming and health.

The Immersive Arcade is the showplace for new and experimental titles such as Terminal 3, Lost City of Mer, and HoloAnatomy. Some of the games being shown break new narrative and thematic ground, such as Bury Me, My Love. Inspired by real events and imbued with themes of love, hope and migration, Bury Me, My Love is a video game which tells the story of Syrian refugee Nour and her husband Majd as Nour undertakes a perilous journey to safety. The title of the story-driven interactive fiction comes from the Syrian goodbye phrase that roughly means “Take care, and don’t even think about dying before I do.”

Within the fest is the XR For Change summit, with more than 30 speakers and panelists from all over the world from leading organizations such as United Nations, University of Washington, Stanford University, Oculus, Microsoft, IBM, and the Sundance Institute.
